     I watched from my front porch as fat, dark clouds filled the sky. The air was heavy with the smell of rain and I knew that the storm would begin at any moment. I could feel it deep in my shaking soul. The birds that usually swarmed over the dump just two miles away were hiding where ever birds hid to keep the rain from soaking their feathers. Not even the insects ventured from their holes. Every animal instinct told them to go aground before the storm hit.     Thunder echoed like dark laughter and I jumped just before lightning struck the tree in my neighbor's yard.
